February 7, 2009 - A Wound to Remember
Losing is one bitter reality that any person will have to undergo during a lifetime. It is always there. But the bigger question is how will you handle that loss. And learn from it.
Greco Wrestling. Stand-up grappling. Try to get the back of your opponent. Shoulder Clutches. Thigh Roundhouse Kick. Yan ang mga natutunan ko nung araw na yun.
Ginanap din dun ang kauna-unahang sparring match na ginawa ko sa buong buhay ko. Ni request ko yung isang senior student for a shadow boxing bout, pero ayun, malakas ang loob ko nun kaya sumubok akong makipagsparring ng MMA. Dun ko din natikman ang unang sipa sa ulo ko. Kahit nakaheadgear ako, putcha, nayanig ako. Para akong bata mong ginulat at natulala. Perom laban lang. Napunta sa ground grappling yung laban, ayun, tatlong beses akong nag tap out. Putcha. Uwi akong talunan ang masakit ang katawan. Pero ang isip ko nalang, kasama talaga yang pagkatalo sa una. E isang buwan palang naman ako. 10 sessions to be exact. Tinry ko lang para alam ko lang ang expectations ko sa isang sparring match.

February 4, 2008 - Documentary Event at the Dojo
Got off early from the office so I can attend the 7-9PM training at the dojo. Ayun, pagpasok ko, napansin ko na maraming tao, may mga camera at studio lights na nagkalat sa dojo. Mukhang may shooting. At di naman ako nagkamali, meron ngang shooting for a documentary. An independent group is researching about Filipino martial arts that has been in existence but has not yet been fully recognized. Anyhows, akala ko di tuloy ang practice, pero tuloy pa din pala. We had a grappling lesson about positionings. High mount, side control, north-south position change. Nakalimutan ko yung tawag sa isang move, pero parang nagr-rhyme sa hankerchief..
Ayun, kahit ganun lang yun, nakakapagod din pala. We had to practice it with a partner so ayun, kahit medyo nasaktan ko yung partner ko, sige lang! Sorry nalang ang katapat. Then we proceeded to exercises. 5 minute duration of squats and push ups. My record to break, 87 squats and 45 pushups. Tapos, jog and high speed run. Cardiovascular exercises ang ginawa namin ngayon.

No Pain, No Gain

Ayun, it was a Saturday afternoon and buhay ang dugo ko nun. Ayos nga eh, nag advance techniques kami in grappling sa mats. Nakakagulat lang isipin na ang pag grab ng isang leg e isa nang paraan para ma dis-arm ang kalaban mo. Ginawa namin ang single leg grab, single leg grab going to a double grab, etc. Medyo mahirap gawin, pero pag once you get the hang out of it, kaya na. Medyo nahirapan din ako sa una, kasi yung ilang moves medyo komplikadong tignan on the eye of a beginner. Pero as they say, paulit ulit mo lang gawin, makukuha mo na.
That was a in the afternoon session; 1-3PM. After that, nag striking lessons din ako from 4-6PM. Nag sparring kami at the ring doing combinations of jabs, straights and roundhouses. Nakakahingal pala. Yung 3 minute round, potcha, pagang paga ka pagkatapos. Pero kinaya naman. As usual after the training, we did some exercises to make our heart rate faster, so I think, endurance purposes yun. Mountain climbing, push ups and jumping jacks.
